WineStatistics will be evaluating wines in no particular order on no particular schedule. Just stay tuned and you will never miss one. If the wine is tasted more than once, the rating table will be updated so as to reflect all the new impressions and observations. The logic is simple – the more we taste, the more we learn.
We continue to review Wine of Moldova and we still keep up with the white wine theme, but this time we are going to review a famous white blend. A wine that is made of no fewer than five different grape varieties, both, international an local varieties, blended together to form this unique wine – 5 Elemente 2013 from Equinox VieVin.
Let’s take a deeper look at the tasting notes and the wine’s review statistics:
The wine has a deep, amber-yellow color, with a bright-golden rim-color.
The nose is rich with some hints of oxidation. The first nose delivers notes of herbs , sweet fruits and honey – white radish, honeycomb, yellow apple, apricot, almonds, dried pear, dried apple, straw grass, limestone and a nuanced scent of moist wood.
The wine is dry, with no hints of residual sugar. It has high alcohol level, high acidity and quite dry tannin, which makes the wine taste sharp, angular and austere. This is a rough and tannic wine, with a weak overall balance, which makes it taste savory, woody and delicate – it smells of rain, earth and wheat – quite a summer profile.
The wine has a medium finish and an astringent aftertaste – it feels mouldy, oxidated and hot at the same time.
This is definitely a fair Wine of Moldova and the overall rating says the same, with 87.5 points scored it is right there, among the best wines we’ve tasted so far. Last but not least, we would like to highlight once again that this wine is a blend of 5 different elements: chardonnay with its character and structure, feteasca regala which adds crispness and savory notes, feteasca alba with indigenous terroir and sweet fruits flavour, babeasca gris with its unique floral profile and pinot gris which adds citrus and tropical notes. This is a wine story that turned into a legend – it is fascinating and unique, as there is no other wine in Moldova made of five different varieties – this wine is a symbol of quality and tradition.
