WineStatistics will be evaluating wines in no particular order on no particular schedule. Just stay tuned and you will never miss one. If the wine is tasted more than once, the rating table will be updated so as to reflect all the new impressions and observations. The logic is simple – the more we taste, the more we learn.
We continue to review Wine of Moldova and we are still on the white wine theme, and we firmly believe that the time has come to switch to the noblest of all whites – the royal chardonnay. In order to explore this wine style at it’s true potential, we’ve decided to dig deeper inside our wine vault for a wine, that is regarded as a classic oaked chardonnay from Moldova – Chardonnay de Purcari 2012 from Chateau Purcari.
Let’s take a deeper look at the tasting notes and the wine’s review statistics:
The wine has a clear yellow color, brilliant and bright, with a transparent greenish shade on the rim.
The nose is rich, with no signs of wine faults. The first nose is intense and it brings notes of sweet fruits mixed with some savory and citrus notes – pear, apple, quince, lemon, straw, physalis, apricot, wormwood, seabuckthorn, moist wood and a very nuanced hint of rum – this wine smells of summer.
The wine is dry, with no hints of residual sugar. It has high alcohol level, high acidity and dry tannin, which makes the wine taste a bit sharp, but crisp, oily and delicate. The wine has a fair overall balance, it resembles a well made old-world chardonnay, full-bodied and woody, but with a clear fruit-forward profile.
The wine has a medium-plus finish and a bitter-smooth aftertaste – this is a wine that can be paired well with fish and white sauce based dishes. It is quite tannic for a white whine, but the tannin will cut well through the fat in the dish and a bit rough to cut through the spice in the food.
This is definitely a fine Wine of Moldova and the overall rating says the same, with 89.7 points scored it is right there, among the best wines we’ve tasted so far. This is a great achievement for a Wine of Moldova and one we can all be proud of. Just keep calm and drink Wine of Moldova.
