WineStatistics will be evaluating wines in no particular order on no particular schedule. Just stay tuned and you will never miss one. If the wine is tasted more than once, the rating table will be updated so as to reflect all the new impressions and observations. The logic is simple – the more we taste, the more we learn.
We are still discovering Wine of Moldova for the time being and because winter holidays are around the corner, we’ve decided it is time to switch to crémant wine theme – that creamy and fizzy wine style that is so popular in every corner of the world. The wine that we’ve chosen for the review tonight is – Vintage Brut Special Cuvée from Cimislia Wineries. This wine is made in a classic, méthode champenoise style, exactly the same way as original champagne is being made in France, with the sole exception that there is no pinot meunier nor pinot noir grape varieties in it, instead, it is made up of chardonnay and pinot blanc.
Let’s take a deeper look at the tasting notes and the wine’s review statistics:
The wine has a pure straw-white color, with some green shades towards the rim.
The nose is rich and insistent, with some nuanced sour notes. The first nose delivers a mix of savory and herbal notes: broth, soured apple, white bell pepper, lemon, gooseberry, white grapefruit, pomelo, quince, straw grass, moist wood and some hints of whey.
The wine is medium-dry, with moderate alcohol level, high acidity and medium tannin. It tastes bitter-tart, green and savory at the same time. It feels a bit angular, but quite mineral and herbal. The wine has a fair overall balance, with a nuanced woody profile.
The wine has a medium, acrid-sour aftertaste – it is a bit bitter and a bit faulty, but quite lean towards the end.
This is definitely a fair Wine of Moldova and the overall rating says the same, with 88.5 points scored it is right there, among the best wines we’ve tasted so far. Last but not least, it is to be mentioned that this wine has been created by the descendants of the famous Cuvée Aleksandr Brut, a wine that, not long time ago, wrote history in Moldova and beyond these lands of wine and vine. Did we mention that sparkling wine is a very good pairing partner for a wide range of foods? Our favourite do-it-yourself recipe would be to pair it with quince slices dressed in a thin honey layer – yummy – just try it yourself and you will be as much amazed as we are.
