WineStatistics will be evaluating wines in no particular order on no particular schedule. Just stay tuned and you will never miss one. If the wine is tasted more than once, the rating table will be updated so as to reflect all the new impressions and observations. The logic is simple – the more we taste, the more we learn.

We continue to review Wine of Moldova and we’re still on the white wine theme, and what a better way to continue on this topic, than with a pinot grigio wine. The wine that we’ve selected for today’s tasting is quite well known, both, here in Moldova and on the international scene as well, so we’ve decided to give it a go – Pinot Grigio 2014 from Albastrele Wines.

Let’s take a deeper look at the tasting notes and the wine’s review statistics:

Gustatory

The wine is dry, with no hints of residual sugar. It has high alcohol level, moderate acidity and dry tannin, which makes the wine taste green, angular and a bit savory. The wine has a fair overall balance – this is a seedy, lean and fair wine, with some rustic-rough accents and a delicate, a bit austere body.

Aftertaste

The wine has a medium finish and a balanced aftertaste – a bit sharp and a bit astringent.

chartsThis is definitely a good Wine of Moldova and the overall rating says the same, with 88.8 points scored it is right there, among the best wines we’ve tasted so far. Conclusion: this wine is definitely over it’s prime, as it display clear signs of decline. This is not a wine to be kept in the cellar, this is a wine that should have been uncorked at least six months ago. But, this is a wine that was very good in it’s youth, as it has been awarded a silver medal by Decanter World Wine Awards and a bronze medal by International Wine & Spirit Competition – two of the world’s most prestigious wine tasting competitions – a reason to be proud of.
