PURCARI | Rosé de Purcari | 2016
cabernet sauvignon | merlot | rara neagra
WineStatistics will be evaluating wines in no particular order on no particular schedule. Just stay tuned and you will never miss one. If the wine is tasted more than once, the rating table will be updated so as to reflect all the new impressions and observations. The logic is simple – the more we taste, the more we learn.
Tonight we are going to review that one rosé wine, that raises the bar higher and higher with every new vintage. It is made of cabernet sauvignon, merlot and rara neagra grape varieties and is regarded by many as the best rosé blend from Moldova – Rosé de Purcari 2016 from Chateau Purcari. And because it needs no further introduction, let’s skip the theory part and move on to the most pleasant part of the review – the tasting.

Take a look at the tasting notes below and our detailed assessment of the wine:
Visual
Peach pink color with shades of bubblegum rose towards the rim of the glass.
Olfactory
The nose is strong, filled mostly with sweet fruit flavours: raspberry, strawberry, berberry, sweet cherry, red currant jam, strawberry jam, candy and some nuanced hints of sweet melon.
Gustatory
The wine is medium-dry, with high alcohol level, high acidity and smooth tannin. This is a fresh, fruity, candy-flavoured rosé wine, with quite appealing crispness and nuanced jaminess. It has a fair overall balance between all its elements, as it is both, aromatic and fresh.
Aftertaste
The wine has a medium finish and a balanced-crisp aftertaste.

This is definitely a great Wine of Moldova and the overall rating says the same, with 90.7 points scored it is right there, among the best wines we’ve tasted so far. Please click on the chart icon on the left in order to get to the wine rating page, where you can find all the wines we’ve tasted to date.
Conclusion: this is a wine that is quite close to its peak form, therefore you can drink it now or age for another 3-6 months, but don’t overdo it, as it is definitely not designed for long term ageing. We would recommend to drink this wine stand alone, as it does not require any particular food pairing, still, any light desserts, like for example fruit tarts or light salmon fish based dishes will do just fine. Enjoy!
