WineStatistics will be evaluating wines in no particular order on no particular schedule. Just stay tuned and you will never miss one. If the wine is tasted more than once, the rating table will be updated so as to reflect all the new impressions and observations. The logic is simple – the more we taste, the more we learn.
Tonight we are going to review a wine we fell in love with, for its expression of the grape variety it is made of, as it is a single varietal sauvignon blanc wine – Aeroplane Sauvignon Blanc 2016 from Et Cetera. This wine is part of the Aeroplane series, that includes fresh, easy-to-drink wines, perfect for any instant meals or wine parties. But what makes this particular wine special is that fact that it raises the bar for all local sauvignon blanc wines. So let’s move and and find out just how good it is.
Take a look at the tasting notes bellow and our detailed assessment of the wine:
Clear greenish-white color with shades of straw yellow towards the rim of the glass.
The nose is strong, filled mostly with citrus and sweet fruit: white peach, green grass, lime, gooseberry, pomelo, hay, fresh cut grass, white nectarine, white pear, lemon, pineapple and some nuanced fresh cucumber juice.
The wine is medium-dry, with moderate alcohol level, strong acidity and fine tannin. It feels fresh, crisp and elegant with a nuanced citrusy accent. This is a refreshing, smooth and zesty wine – almost a classic new-world sauvignon wine, very aromatic with a quite expressive herbal-mineral ending.
It has a long finish and a velvety, crispy-tart aftertaste.
This is definitely a great Wine of Moldova and the overall rating says the same, with 94.0 points scored it is right there, among the best wines we’ve tasted so far. Conclusion: this is a fine sauvignon blanc wine in its prime form. You can age it for another 3-6 months, but we strongly recommend to drink it now, as long it’s still young and beautiful. This is that kind of wine, one finds hard to improve by food pairing. Our recommendation would be to pair it with some fresh oysters with lemon dressing or oven baked mahi-mahi fillet. Enjoy!
