WineStatistics will be evaluating wines in no particular order on no particular schedule. Just stay tuned and you will never miss one. If the wine is tasted more than once, the rating table will be updated so as to reflect all the new impressions and observations. The logic is simple – the more we taste, the more we learn.

Tonight we are going to review a crémant wines from Romania – Sole Spumant Alb Brut from Cramele Recas. It is made in a non-traditional, tank method style, also called méthode charmat , using only chardonnay grapes. This wine is part of the ‘Sole’ collection, which is a tribute to the spirit of the Sun, thus highlighting it’s warm and fruity profile. But enough theory, let’s get straight to the review.

The nose is strong, filled mostly with sweet fruit notes: lemon, fresh cut grass, quince, gooseberry, kiwi, green pear, green apple, underripe apricot and some nuanced hints of pear candy.

The wine is medium-dry, with moderate alcohol level, high acidity and smooth tannin. It tastes lean, crisp and fruity, with a nuanced sweet accent. This is a smooth and quite appealing wine: light, fizzy and creamy, with a fair overall balance.

chartsThis is definitely a great Wine of Romania and the overall rating says the same, with 90.2 points scored it is right there, among the best wines we’ve tasted so far. Please click on the chart icon on the left in order to get to the wine rating page, where you can find all the wines we’ve tasted to date.

Conclusion: this is a wine on its peak form, maybe just a bit over its prime, definitely ready to drink now, thus no more bottle ageing is needed. To be honest, this wine is quite appealing and we would recommend to pair it with white cream based dishes, like for example japanese white stew and rice or slices of soft white cheese. Enjoy!
