CORTEN | Cabernet-Sauvignon | 2011
cabernet sauvignon
WineStatistics will be evaluating wines in no particular order on no particular schedule. Just stay tuned and you will never miss one. If the wine is tasted more than once, the rating table will be updated so as to reflect all the new impressions and observations. The logic is simple – the more we taste, the more we learn.
Tonight we are going to review a cabernet sauvignon wine – the king of reds and the most famous red wine on the mapamonde. Since cabernet sauvignon is grown in a wide range of climates and regions throughout the world it has varied flavors. By default, cabernet sauvignon is a full-bodied red wine with dark fruit flavors and lots of spice. Without further ado, we present you the wine we’ve selected for the review tonight – Cabernet-Sauvignon 2011 from Corten.

Take a look at the tasting notes bellow and our detailed assessment of the wine:
Visual
Clear garnet color with shades of bright ruby towards the rim of the glass.
Olfactory
The nose is strong, filled mostly with red fruits flavours: sour cherry, red plum, wormwood, red currant, cranberry, red pepper and dried banana. An instant later the nose is filled with notes of roasted wood, dried cranberry and some hints of allspice.
Gustatory
The wine is dry, with high alcohol level, high acidity and ripe tannin. It tastes crisp and zestty, with a nuanced bitterness. This is a quite tart and extracted wine, with a nuanced fruit-forward profile. The wine has a fair overall balance and it feels lean and subtle.
Aftertaste
It has a medium finish and an balanced, a bit acrid aftertaste.

This is definitely a fine Wine of Moldova and the overall rating says the same, with 89.8 points scored it is right there, among the best wines we’ve tasted so far. Please click on the chart icon on the left in order to get to the wine rating page, where you can find all the wines we’ve tasted to date.
Conclusion: this wine is yet too young despite its age, as it feels tart and lean, but we cannot say that it will benefit from more bottle ageing either, as it is clearly over its prime form. Our recommendation would be to pair this wine with grilled veal steak or barbecued meat in order to amplify the wine’s structure and spiciness. Enjoy!
