F’AUTOR | Rosé | 2016

WineStatistics will be evaluating wines in no particular order on no particular schedule. Just stay tuned and you will never miss one. If the wine is tasted more than once, the rating table will be updated so as to reflect all the new impressions and observations. The logic is simple – the more we taste, the more we learn.
Today we’ve decided to review a rosé wine, because we’ve found a special one – Rosé 2016 from F’autor Winery. This is a blend of 3 varieties: syrah, tempranillo and the indigenous feteasca neagra and it is regarded by many as the best rosé blend from Moldova. So, let’s find out just how good this wine is and move on to the most pleasant part of the review – the tasting.

Take a look at the tasting notes below and our detailed assessment of the wine:
Visual
Peach pink color with shades of pink poppy petals towards the rim of the glass.
Olfactory
The nose is strong, filled mostly with sweet fruit flavours: wolfberry, sugar candy, raspberry, berberry candy, red mirabelle, wolfberry jam, nectarine, red grapefruit, sicilia orange and some nuanced hints of pomegranate juice.
Gustatory
The wine is dry, with high alcohol level, high acidity and ripe tannin. This is a juicy, fruity, candy-flavoured rosé wine, with a ripe, bitters-seedy body and nuanced jaminess. It has a fair overall balance between all its elements, and it feels quite bold and even rough for a rosé wine.
Aftertaste
The wine has a medium finish and a balanced, bitter-elegant aftertaste.

This is definitely a great Wine of Moldova and the overall rating says the same, with 90.7 points scored it is right there, among the best wines we’ve tasted so far. Conclusion: this is a rosé wine in its peak form or nearabout – drink it now or age for another 6 to 12 months, but don’t overdo it – even though the polyphenols in this wine may tell us that it can withstand long term ageing, we would recommend to drink it now, as it is still young and beautiful. We’ve been very impressed by this wine, as it’s simply amazing and quite unique for a rosé – complex, bold and even tannic, which is quite unusual, but delightful at the same time. The best way to drink this wine is stand-alone, in order to enjoy it’s elegance, or paired with red fish dishes, like for example oven baked salmon with thyme and lemon. Cheers!
