WineStatistics will be evaluating wines in no particular order on no particular schedule. Just stay tuned and you will never miss one. If the wine is tasted more than once, the rating table will be updated so as to reflect all the new impressions and observations. The logic is simple – the more we taste, the more we learn.

The wine we’ve selected for the today’s review is relatively new, as it was released on the market this past summer – Rosé 2016 from Bravo Wine. It is a rosé wine blend, made of 3 varieties: merlot, saperavi and the indigenous feteasca neagra. Rosé wines are growing in popularity with each passing season here in Moldova and we are eager to try as many different styles as we can. That said, let’s find out just how good this wine is.

Olfactory

The nose is strong, filled mostly with sweet fruit flavours: raspberry, berberry, wolfberry, candy, sicilia orange, strawberry, red grapefruit, berberry jam and some hints of cherry syrup.

Gustatory

The wine is medium-dry, with high alcohol level, high acidity and firm tannin. This is a sharp, angular, candy-flavoured rosé wine, with a quite austere, bitters-hot body and nuanced alcohol. It has a fair overall balance and it feels rough and eaggressive for a rosé wine.

Aftertaste

The wine has a medium finish and an astringent and rough aftertaste.

chartsThis is definitely a fair Wine of Moldova and the overall rating says the same, with 88.0 points scored it is right there, among the best wines we’ve tasted so far. Please click on the chart icon on the left in order to get to the wine rating page, where you can find all the wines we’ve tasted to date.

Conclusion: this rosé wine is not yet in its peak form and it is difficult to predict if it can get there at all, because it feels too austere and aggressive, which makes any assumption difficult. Our recommendation is to drink now or age for another 3-4 months. In order to smoothen its angles, pair this wine with spicy and aromatic, fat-rich dishes, like for example an oven baked salmon with thyme and rosmarine or a spicy Thai chicken salad. Enjoy!
