WineStatistics will be evaluating wines in no particular order on no particular schedule. Just stay tuned and you will never miss one. If the wine is tasted more than once, the rating table will be updated so as to reflect all the new impressions and observations. The logic is simple – the more we taste, the more we learn.

Tonight we are going to review a white wine, that is a bit different compared to its peers, as it is a blend of viognier and chardonnay varieties – Aeroplane Affinité 2015 from Et Cetera. This wine is part of the Aeroplane series, that is made of fresh and easy-to-drink wines, perfect for any entry meals or wine parties. But what makes this particular wine special is the viognier variety, one that is unexplored in these parts and, in fact, this is the only local wine made of viognier grapes, that are more common in Romania rather than Moldova. But enough theory, let’s move on to the tasting.

Olfactory

The nose is strong, filled mostly with sweet fruits and herbal flavours: oakwood, apricot, lemon, yellow mirabelle, chamomile, wormwood, elderflower, daffodil, pear, apple and some quite nuanced hints of pear candy.

Gustatory

The wine is dry, with high alcohol level, high acidity and green tannin. It feels seedy-green, sharp and quite rough, with a nuanced mineral, yet austere accent. This is a zesty, crisp and a bit woody wine, with a fair overall balance and an angular profile.

Aftertaste

It has a medium-plus finish and a balanced, bitter-green aftertaste.

chartsThis is definitely a great Wine of Moldova and the overall rating says the same, with 90.0 points scored it is right there, among the best wines we’ve tasted so far. Please click on the chart icon on the left in order to get to the wine rating page, where you can find all the wines we’ve tasted to date.

Conclusion: this is a wine in its prime form or nearabout, definitely ready to drink now and a bit more bottle ageing is required (6-9 months) in order to smoothen its edges. It feels a bit sharp and quite angular at the moment, with nuanced bitterness and acidity, yet we recommend to drink it now, as long it’s still young and beautiful. Due to its herbaceous, you’ll do just fine by pairing this wine with seafood, soft cheese or any pasta-based dishes, like for example quattro formaggi pasta or some butter and garlic steamed clams, as the later one is an epic pairing indeed. Cheers!
