WineStatistics will be evaluating wines in no particular order on no particular schedule. Just stay tuned and you will never miss one. If the wine is tasted more than once, the rating table will be updated so as to reflect all the new impressions and observations. The logic is simple – the more we taste, the more we learn.
Tonight we are going to review a wine that is a bit special in its own way – Chardonnay – Feteasca Alba Vintage 2015 from Vinaria din Vale. It is a white blend that is made of chardonnay and feteasca alba grape varieties, where chardonnay forms the wine’s body, structure and complexity, while feteasca alba adds some extra elegance and those authentic wild floral flavours. Wines made of feteasca alba usually stand out from the crowd due to their finesse and refinement. This wine was aged for 6 months in french oak barrique, a technique that is growing in popularity with each passing season. That said, let’s find out just how good this wine is. On to the tasting!

Take a look at the tasting notes below and our detailed assessment of the wine:
Visual
Pale yellow color with straw-yellow shades towards the rim of the glass.
Olfactory
The rich is strong, filled mostly with sweet fruits and citrus flavours: pear, ripe yellow apple, ripe apricot, yellow mirabelle, lemon, canned pineapple, pear candy, iris, vanilla, butter, sweet lemon and some subtle hints of honey.
Gustatory
The wine is medium-dry, with high alcohol level, high acidity and green tannin. It tastes ripe, citrusy and fruity with a delicate floral accent. The wine feels sharp, angular and quite green, with a fair overall balance.
Aftertaste
It has a medium finish and a balanced, a bit rough aftertaste.

This is definitely a fine Wine of Moldova and the overall rating says the same, with 89.7 points scored it is right there, among the best wines we’ve tasted so far. Please click on the chart icon on the left in order to get to the wine rating page, where you can find all the wines we’ve tasted to date.
Conclusion: this is a wine that has yet to reach its prime form – too young, too green and a bit overoaked. A couple more years of bottle ageing will suffice in order to smoothen its sharp edges. We would recommend to pair this wine with creamy and white sauce based dishes, like for example white pasta, four cheese risotto or quattro formaggi pizza, as the roughness and angularity in the wine will be countered quite nicely by the spiciness and creaminess in the food. Enjoy!
