WineStatistics will be evaluating wines in no particular order on no particular schedule. Just stay tuned and you will never miss one. If the wine is tasted more than once, the rating table will be updated so as to reflect all the new impressions and observations. The logic is simple – the more we taste, the more we learn.
Today we are going to review a wine that is a bit rare and a bit unique, as it is a single varietal feteasca alba wine – Feteasca Alba 2016 from Cricova. Feteasca Alba is a very old variety, it dates back for almost two thousand years and is a variety that is little known outside of Moldova and Romania. Feteasca Alba wines stand out from the crowd mostly due to their finesse and a delicate balance and it is mainly used in production of local still dry wines. This wine is also part of the ‘Limited Edition‘ wine series, which offers of single-varietal wines that are addressed mostly to wine enthusiasts and connoisseurs. That said, let’s find out just how good this wine is. On to the tasting!

Visual
Straw yellow color with shades of pale green towards the rim of the glass.
Olfactory
The rich is strong, filled mostly with sweet fruits and citrus flavours: gooseberry, green pear, kiwi, green apple, green pomelo, wormwood, pear leaf, lime, bergamot, green apricot, sweet lemon and some nuanced hints of avocado.
Gustatory
The wine is dry, with moderate alcohol level, high acidity and firm tannin. It tastes crisp, citrusy and quite expressive with a nuanced zesty accent. The wine feels fresh, fine and quite fruity, with a fair overall balance.

This is definitely a great Wine of Moldova and the overall rating says the same, with 90.2 points scored it is right there, among the best wines we’ve tasted so far. Please click on the chart icon on the left in order to get to the wine rating page, where you can find all the wines we’ve tasted to date.
Conclusion: this is a wine in its prime form that is definitely ready to drink now or in the next 6 months, as its body profile displays encouraging signs of age worthiness. This wine has many similarities with a warm climate sauvignon blanc wine, as it has mouth-watering acidity and a lovely texture, that makes it a wonderful food wine. We would recommend to pair this wine with grilled oysters with lemon-garlic butter or a soft cheese board. Cheers!
