GOGU WINERY | Rosé | Cabernet-Sauvignon | 2018
cabernet sauvignon
WineStatistics will be evaluating wines in no particular order on no particular schedule. Just stay tuned and you will never miss one. If the wine is tasted more than once, the rating table will be updated so as to reflect all the new impressions and observations. The logic is simple – the more we taste, the more we learn.
Tonight we are going to review a quite special wine, as this is a single varietal rosé wine, freshly released on the market this past summer, made of cabernet sauvignon grapes – Rosé Cabernet-Sauvignon 2018 by Gogu Winery. This is a small winemaker from the famous Stefan-Voda wine region that became famous for its zesty and refreshing whites and the amazing Metafora wine. The philosophy behind the bottle is to value as much as it can the natural potential offered by the variety in the context of the local terroir, but enough with the theory spect, without further ado, let’s get straight to the tasting!

Take a look at the tasting notes below and our detailed assessment of the wine:
Visual
Pale salmon color, with pastel pink shades towards the rim of the glass.
Olfactory
The nose is strong, filled mostly with sweet fruit and berry flavours: sweet cherry, strawberry, watermelon, berberry, red delicious apple, cranberry, pink mulberry, cherry blossom, honeysuckle, berberry candy, strawberry candy, ripe quince and sicilia orange.
Gustatory
The wine is dry, with high alcohol level, high acidity and ripe tannin. It tastes lean, crisp and refreshingly appealing. The wine has a fair overall balance, as it feels zesty, fruity and delicious, with an elegant plate and mouth-watering acidity. This is a fine rosé wine – supple, citrusy-floral and round – a real crowd pleaser.
Aftertaste
The wine has a medium-plus finish and a crisp, zesty and zippy aftertaste.

This is definitely a fine Wine of Moldova and the overall rating says the same, with 90.9 points scored it is right there, among the best wines we’ve tasted so far. Please click on the chart icon on the left in order to get to the wine rating page, where you can find all the wines we’ve tasted to date.
Conclusion: this is a very fine rosé wine that is right at the summit of its prime form: crisp, zesty and amazingly appealing, with a nuanced fruity-floral accent. We would suggest to drink it now, as long as it is still young and beautiful – just remember that it is always better to drink a wine a year too soon than a day too late. Our recommendation would be to drink this wine standalone or to pair it with salmon-avocado bruschetta or a very light and creamy dessert, like for example a crème brûlée. Cheers!
