WineStatistics will be evaluating wines in no particular order on no particular schedule. Just stay tuned and you will never miss one. If the wine is tasted more than once, the rating table will be updated so as to reflect all the new impressions and observations. The logic is simple – the more we taste, the more we learn.

Tonight we are going to review a quite unique wine blend – Aurore Albariño – Sauvignon Blanc 2017 by Fáutor Winery. This is a white wine blend, made of 2 varieties: albariño, which is famous for its high acidity and refreshing citrus notes, thus responsible for the wine’s main body and flavour, and sauvignon blanc, which adds structure, elegance and complexity to the final blend. This wine is part of the Aurore wine series, which is made of wines that are able to reflect the terroir of the Valul lui Traian wine region. And on that note, without further ado, let’s get straight to the tasting and find out how good this wine really is!

Olfactory

The nose is strong, filled mostly with sweet fruits and citrus flavours: yellow pear, apricot, yellow apple, hay, straw grass, yellow mirabelle, ripe quince, camomile, meadow, candied pineapple, green pear candy, lemon and some nuanced notes of honeysuckle.

Gustatory

The wine is dry, with high alcohol level, high acidity and ripe tannin. This is a crisp, zesty and quite elegant wine blend with a nuanced fruity-citrusy profile. It tastes refreshing, zingy and slightly mineral, with a fair overall balance and a harmonious mouthfeel. The wine feels extremely appealing, lean and round.

Aftertaste

It has a long finish and a balanced, soft and bitter-crisp aftertaste.

chartsThis is definitely a fine Wine of Moldova and the overall rating says the same, with 91.1 points scored it is right there, among the best wines we’ve tasted so far. Please click on the chart icon on the left in order to get to the wine rating page, where you can find all the wines we’ve tasted to date.

Conclusion: this is a fine wine blend that is right on the summit of its prime form – crisp, elegant and amazingly refreshing – drink it now or in the next 6 or 12 months. The wine has a bitter-crisp grip on the mouthfeel, which leads to a smooth mid-palate, firming beautifully on the finish, where the nuanced citrusy-mineral flavors glide well alongside those subtle floral notes. In order to complement the wine’s aromatics, we would suggest to pair it with citrusy-tropical salad dishes or seafood dishes that are rich in natural acidity, like for example a citrus salad with mint, honey and lime or some fresh oysters with lemon and tabasco sauce. Enjoy!
