feteasca alba
WineStatistics will be evaluating wines in no particular order on no particular schedule. Just stay tuned and you will never miss one. If the wine is tasted more than once, the rating table will be updated so as to reflect all the new impressions and observations. The logic is simple – the more we taste, the more we learn.
Tonight we are going to review a single varietal feteasca alba wine, which is an indigenous romanian variety with moldovan origins – Fiori Feteasca Alba 2017 by Radacini. Feteasca Alba is a very old variety, it dates back for almost two thousand years and is a variety that is little known outside of Moldova and Romania. Feteasca Alba wines stand out from the crowd mostly due to their finesse and a delicate balance and it is mainly used in production of local still dry wines. This wine is part of the Fiori wine series, which is made of wines that are easy to drink and enjoy without too much fuss. But let’s not get carried away by the the theory aspect – on to the tasting!

Take a look at the tasting notes below and our detailed assessment of the wine:
Visual
Straw yellow color with pale shades of white towards the rim of the glass.
Olfactory
The nose is strong, filled mostly with sweet fruits and herbal flavours: white pear, lemon, yellow apple, apricot, pineapple, pomelo, wormwood, gooseberry, camomile, margaret, elderflower, pear leaf and some nuanced hints of current leaf.
Gustatory
The wine is medium-dry, with moderate alcohol level, high acidity and smooth tannin. It tastes smooth, lean and round, with a bitter-crisp yet supple accent. The wine feels creamy, velvety and very appealing, sometimes even opulent and plumpy, with a fair overall balance and a quite refreshing and tart mouthfeel.
Aftertaste
It has a medium-plus finish and a balanced, bitter-crisp aftertaste.

Conclusion: this is a fine feteasca alba wine that is right at the summit of its prime form, definitely ready to drink now or in the next 9 months, as its body is well structured and it does not lack neither balance nor harmony. Its mouth-watering acidity and the lovely smooth texture makes it a wonderful food wine, therefore we would recommend to pair this wine with some creamy shrimp salad or a chicken, avocado and pear salad.
