WineStatistics will be evaluating wines in no particular order on no particular schedule. Just stay tuned and you will never miss one. If the wine is tasted more than once, the rating table will be updated so as to reflect all the new impressions and observations. The logic is simple – the more we taste, the more we learn.

The wine we are going to review tonight is another local rosé wine blend – Individo Cabernet Sauvignon – Merlot 2018 by Château Vartely. This wine is a blend of cabernet sauvignon and merlot grape varieties, is part of the ‘Individo‘ wine series, that is a set of 6 wines, each with its own personality and character. Rosé wine is usually made by the ‘saignee method’, when the juice of red wine is strained from its skins before it becomes too dark, therefore the winemaker has to remove the red grape skins (the source of the red pigment) when the wine reaches the perfect color. But let’s not put too much emphasis on the theory side and, without further ado, let’s move on to the tasting!

Olfactory

The nose is strong, filled mostly with sweet berry fruits flavours: berberry, ripe wolfberry, strawberry, ripe cranberry, watermelon, wildberry, berberry candy, raspberry, strawberry candy, red delicious apple, pink mirabelle, pink mulberry and some nunced hints of ripe nectarine.

Gustatory

The wine is dry, with high alcohol level, high acidity and firm tannin. This is a quite refreshing, crisp and expressive rosé wine, with a nuanced and fruity profile. It tastes bitter-seedy, tart and a bit green. The wine has a fair overall balance, as this is a fresh, supple and a bit angular wine, with a touch of alcoholic warmth on the mouthfeel.

The wine has a long finish and a balanced, bitter-seedy and crisp aftertaste.

chartsThis is definitely a fine Wine of Moldova and the overall rating says the same, with 90.6 points scored it is right there, among the best wines we’ve tasted so far. Please click on the chart icon on the left in order to get to the wine rating page, where you can find all the wines we’ve tasted to date.

Conclusion: this is nuanced and well structured rosé wine, maybe just a bit off its balance – a wine that is still on the rise, as it has yet to reach the summit of its prime form. We strongly suggest to drink it now, as long as it is still young and beautiful, or in the next 9-12 months – the potential is definitely there. Keep in mind that it is always better to drink a wine a year too soon than a day too late, so take you chance yet don’t take it too far. In order to enhance the wine’s aromatics, try and pair it with salmon bruschetta dressed in honey-balsamic sauce or a pomegranate infused red trout. Cheers.
