We will be evaluating wines in no particular order on no particular schedule. Just stay tuned and you will never miss our reviews. If the wine is tasted more than once, the rating table will be updated so as to reflect all the new impressions and observations.
Tonight we are going to review another single-varietal cabernet sauvignon wine – the world’s most popular grape variety and the noblest among reds – Maestro Cabernet Sauvignon Barrique Reserve 2017 by Imperial Vin. Cabernet Sauvignon is grown all over the world in a wide range of climates and regions and it usually has high tannins and high acidity, thus it can produce outstanding quality wines that can mature and develop for many years in the bottle. This particular wine has been aged for 12 months in small oak barriques and produced in a limited edition of only 2500 bottles. Maestro is a relatively new sub-brand on the local market, launched one year ago by Imperial Vin, with only three, limited edition, signature wines. That being said – on to the tasting.

Verdict: this is fine example of a cabernet sauvignon wine that is still on the rise – fruity, supple and round – a wine that requires a couple more years of bottle ageing. This is a quite oaky cabernet sauvignon wine that lacks finesse and elegance on the palate, still a very well made and nicely structured wine nonetheless, with recognizable varietal characteristics and nuanced oak-infused spiciness. The wine feels grippy, with medium complexity and a quite appealing, seedy-crisp and slightly bitter accent on the mouthfeel, with a touch of alcoholic warmth showing through towards the end. Very noble overall!
