We will be evaluating wines in no particular order on no particular schedule. Just stay tuned and you will never miss our reviews. If the wine is tasted more than once, the rating table will be updated so as to reflect all the new impressions and observations.

Today we are going to review a wine that was unexpectedly good from its very inception – a wine that still continues to delight wine lovers ever since – Feteasca Regala 2018 by Château Vartely. This is a single varietal feteasca regala wine, which is one of the most famous and most sought after indigenous grape varieties in Romania and Moldova. Feteasca regala means ‘royal maiden’ – a hybrid grape variety, made of feteasca alba and grasa de cotnari crossing, that produces crisp, dry and very aromatic white wines. That said, without further ado, let’s move on straight to our tasting results.

Verdict: this is a very nice feteasca regala wine that is right there, at the summit of its prime form – crisp, refreshing and extremely appealing – drink it now or in the next 3 to 6 months. The wine has a pronounced citrusy-floral accent, with a slightly zesty- green feel on the mouthfeel, mouth-watering acidity and just a touch of alcoholic warmth on the plate. The wine also has some quite nuanced herbal-vegetal hints that leads to a zingy mid-palate, firming beautifully on the finish, where the nuanced citrusy-floral flavors glide well alongside those subtle herbal notes. This is definitely one of the best feteasca regala wines ever made in Moldova.
