We will be evaluating wines in no particular order on no particular schedule. Just stay tuned and you will never miss our reviews. If the wine is tasted more than once, the rating table will be updated so as to reflect all the new impressions and observations.

Today we are going to review an unique rosé wine with the label ‘Made in Moldova’ – Cabernet Franc Blanc 2019 by Terra Dacia. This rosé wine is made only of cabernet franc grapes that were sourced from the famous Stefan-Voda region and at the moment is the only cabernet franc based rose in Moldova. Rosé wines are usually made by the ‘saignee method‘, when the juice of the red grapes is strained from its skins before it becomes too dark, therefore the winemaker has to remove the red grape skins (the source of the red pigment) when the wine reaches the desired color depth. The trap here lies in the character of the resulting rosé wine, as the focus on color alone might compromise the taste and flavour of the resulting wine. That said, without further ado, let’s take a look at the wine tasting results.

96x96This is definitely a fair wine of Moldova and, with a total of 89.8 points scored, this wine is right there, among the best wines we’ve rated so far. Check our complete database on the wine rating page, where you can find all the wines that we have tasted and reviewed or go to the about us page and find out more about our exquisite rating system.

Verdict: this is a quite fair rosé wine that is right there, at the summit of its prime form: crisp, slightly bitter and fresh, with a nuanced fruity-seedy accent and a bit angular mouthfeel. The wine has mouth-watering acidity and a touch of alcoholic warmth towards the end of the palate, and overall it feels lean, opulent and slightly wide, lacking maybe just a bit of harmony and finesse on the mouthfeel, which leads to an austere, seedy-crisp finale. We would recommend to drink this wine today rather than tomorrow, as long as it’s still young and beautiful in order to enjoy it at its finest.
