Today we are going to review a wine that conquered our hearts from the first sip – Madame S. 2020 by Crama Ferdi. This is a single varietal sauvignon blanc wine from the Dealu Mare region in Muntenia. Sauvignon Blanc is a very old grape variety and it translates from french as ‘wild white‘, which is in fact the essence of this variety – the wilderness. What makes it different from its peers are those unique herbaceous flavors, reminiscent of green bell pepper, currant leaf, gooseberry and fresh cut grass – all these flavors come from aromatic compounds called pyrazines. That said, without further ado, let’s move on straight to our tasting results.

Verdict: this is a very fine sauvignon blanc wine that is right there, at the peak of its form: refreshingly crisp, zingy and extremely appealing. It feels zesty, citrusy-herbal and fresh, with mouth-watering acidity and a touch of alcoholic warmth on the palate. The wine hs a medium body and a fruity-herbaceous, slightly green accent, with a pronounced seedy-crisp finale. Overall the wine tastes well balanced and nicely structured – a very refined and firm sauvignon blanc wine indeed. We would recommend to drink this wine today, as long as it’s still young and beautiful, in order to enjoy it at its finest, as this is a true and, dare we say, classic sauvignon blanc wine that will do amazingly well on its own or paired with some fresh oysters. Enjoy!
