Today we are going to review a very intriguing and quite unique wine that has acquired a legendary status over the last decade – Principesa Margareta 2018 by Domeniul Coroanei Segarcea. This is the winemaker’s flagship white blend, made of grapes sourced from the famous Segarcea vineyards – a blend of viognier, pinot gris and chardonnay grape varieties, where viognier forms the main body and structure, while pinot gris and chardonnay adds up-front richness, sweet fruits and floral notes on the nose. What makes this wine really special is the fact that the viognier variety has been partially aged in oak and acacia barriques and partially left unoaked (which makes it a blend of 3 individually vinified viognier wines), while the other two varieties have been left unoaked, fresh and crisp. This wine has been crafted on personal request of Her Royal Highness Crown Princess Margareta of Romania and today it is one of the most desired romanian wines. That said and without further ado, let’s take a look at the wine tasting results.

Verdict: this is a really great white blend that is right there, at the summit of its prime form – a wine that could resist another 12 months of bottle ageing in proper conditions. It tastes smooth, round and very complex, with a nuanced fruity-oaky foreground, supported by some very elegant, floral notes in the background. The wine feels rich, plump and voluptuous, with mouth-watering acidity and just a touch of alcoholic warmth on the mouthfeel. This is a well structured and harmonious wine blend that has a quite delightful aromatic profile, displaying some very elegant and mesmerizing vanilla & acacia hints on the nose. Our suggestion is to drink this wine today rather than tomorrow, as we firmly believe that it is always better to drink a wine a year too soon than a day too late. Enjoy!
