We will be evaluating wines in no particular order on no particular schedule. Just stay tuned and you will never miss our reviews. If the wine is tasted more than once, the rating table will be updated so as to reflect all the new impressions and observations.

Today we are also going to review a rosé wine from the Colinele Dobrogei wine region in Dobrogea – a wine we were eager to try for a very long time – Nud 2020 by Crama Rasova. This rosé wine is a blend made of four grape varieties: pinot noir, feteasca neagra, syrah and mamaia, and if the former three you might recall easily, the last one might be a mystery to you. Mamaia is a red grape variety that is a cross between merlot and babeasca neagra crossed with muskat-ottonel. That cross was made in Romania in 2016 and the name was given after the famous romanian seaside resort on the Black Sea in Dobrogea. Rosé itself is a bizarre wine category, as it isn’t exactly a red wine nor is it a white wine – it is something in between. The secret to the pinkish hue of the rosé wine is found in the skins of the grapes and more exactly in the anthocyanin pigments. When making a red wine, the skins spend the entire fermentation touching the juice, for rosé however the process is shortened, for example pinot noir usually spends around 4 to 6 hours on the skins to produce its trademark pale salmon hue, while cabernet sauvignon needs only a few minutes to make that rich, deep-pink color. That said and without further ado, let’s take a look at the wine tasting results.

Verdict: this is a very fine rosé wine: refreshingly fresh, crisp and extremely appealing – a wine that is right there, at the peak of its form. It feels seedy-crisp, round and supple, with mouth-watering acidity and a touch of alcoholic warmth on the palate. The wine delivers plenty of ripe red and berry fruits in the foreground, with a layer of meadow wilderness in the background. It has a medium body and a slight bitterness on the palate, leading to a seedy-crisp finale. We would recommend to drink this wine today rather than tomorrow, as long as it’s still young and beautiful in order to enjoy it at its finest. All in all, this is one of the best rosé wines we’ve tasted so far – it tastes exactly the way you’d expect: delicious. Cheers!
