Today we are going to review a very special wine, named after the Charlotte’s sun LysandreCuvée Lysandre 2020 by SERVE. This is a single-varietal, off-dry tamaioasa romaneasca wine that comes from the famous Dealu Mare region in Muntenia. Tamaioasa Romaneasca (also known as Muscat Blanc à Petits Grains and Muscat of Alexandria) is a branch variety of the muscat family – a variety of grapes that are very sensitive to frost, drought, excess of moisture, susceptible to powdery mildew and vulnerable to blight and botrytis. Muscat is believed to originate from the Ancient Greece and is cultivated for at least 2000 years in Romania under various names (Muscat Frontignan, Busuioaca de Moldova, Tamaioasa Alba de Dragasani, Rumanische Weihrauchtraube). But enough theory, that said and without further ado, let’s move on straight to our tasting results.

Verdict: this is a very appealing, lean and round demi-sweet wine that is right there, at the summit of its prime form, therefore we would highly recommend to drink it today and enjoy it in its full flamboyance. The wine tastes creamy, smooth and slightly opulent, with a seedy-sweet mouthfeel and a touch of alcoholic warmth. It definitely lacks a bit of acidity on the palate, which in turn creates the feeling that the wine lacks some structure and complexity, nonetheless, this is a nicely balanced and very fragrant tamaioasa romaneasca wine. The wine has an extremely appealing nose, with a nuanced fruity-floral foreground and a mesmerizing herbaceous & sweet background – a real crowd-pleaser of a wine: plump, creamy and sweet – a wine that will be great if paired with light dessert dishes (think panna cotta). Enjoy!
