We will be evaluating wines in no particular order on no particular schedule. Just stay tuned and you will never miss our reviews. If the wine is tasted more than once, the rating table will be updated so as to reflect all the new impressions and observations.

Today we are going to review a single-varietal pinot noir wine with the label ‘Made in Moldova‘ – Pinot Noir 2019 by Famber Winery. Pinot Noir has reached a legendary status over the last decades and today it is the most sought-after red wine in the world. The grape itself is quite vulnerable, suffering from a multitude of diseases and its genetics make it highly susceptible to mutation. But despite all the difficulty to grow pinot noir, when treated with utmost care, it is capable of producing the very best expressions of terrior. This particular wine has been aged partially in french and partially in american oak barrels in order to add more structure, complexity and flavour intensity. That said and without further ado, let’s take a look at the wine tasting results.

Verdict: this is a very interesting pinot noir wine: round, lean and supple – a wine that is right there, at the peak of its prime form, yet one that can age for another 2 or 3 years in the bottle. It tastes green and slightly bitter, with well integrated acidity, a fine-tannic grip and an overwhelming alcohol warmth on the mouthfeel. This is a pinot noir wine that lacks some elegance and finesse on the palate, as in its current state it feels a bit too oaky (with nuanced coconut-woody flavours) and slightly angular (mostly due to the overwhelming alcohol). On the nose the wine delivers ripe red & berry fruits in the foreground, supported by some very nuanced spicy notes and dried herbs hints in the background. All in all, this is a very nice pinot noir wine that is slightly austere on the palate, with a pleasantly seedy bitterness on the finish – a wine that is mixing the delicateness of a pinot noir with the flamboyance of oak ageing.
