We will be evaluating wines in no particular order on no particular schedule. Just stay tuned and you will never miss our reviews. If the wine is tasted more than once, the rating table will be updated so as to reflect all the new impressions and observations.

Today we are going to review another single-varietal pinot noir wine with the label ‘Made in Moldova‘ – Pinot Noir 2019 by Divus Winery. Pinot Noir has reached a legendary status over the last decades and today it is the most sought-after red wine in the world. The grape itself is quite vulnerable, suffering from a multitude of diseases and its genetics make it highly susceptible to mutation. But despite all the difficulty to grow pinot noir, when treated with utmost care, it is capable of producing the very best expressions of terrior. This particular wine has been aged in both, french and american oak barrels, in order to add more structure and complexity and is produced in a limited edition of only 2850 bottles. That said and without further ado, let’s take a look at the wine tasting results.

96x96This is definitely a fine wine of Moldova and, with a total of 92.4 points scored, this wine is right there, among the best wines we’ve rated so far. Verdict: this is a very adventurous pinot noir wine: round, lean and supple – a wine that is right there, at the summit of its development, yet one that can age for another 2 or 3 years in the bottle. It tastes crisp and slightly hot, with elevated acidity, a fine-grained tannins and a touch of alcohol warmth on the mouthfeel. This is a pinot noir wine that lacks some elegance and finesse on the palate, as in its current state it feels slightly green (with nuanced herbaceousness) and very appealing (mostly due to its mesmerizing flavours). On the nose the wine delivers ripe red & berry fruits in the foreground, supported by some nuanced spicy-herbal hints in the background, with a layer of coconut and nutmeg in between. All in all, this is a very good pinot noir wine: nicely balanced and well structured, with a pleasantly seedy aftertaste – a wine that is delivering the delicateness of a pinot noir and the flamboyance of american oak.
