Today we are going to review a wine that is considered to be one of the best single varietal feteasca neagra wine from Moldova – Feteasca Neagra 2019 by Divus Winery. Feteasca Neagra is an indigenous romanian variety that has been grown for hundreds of years on substantial plantings in the south of Moldova and eastern Muntenia and today, this is the most famous red variety in Romania. Wines made from feteasca neagra grapes are usually fruit-forward, complex and structured, wines that often are compared to merlot and cabernet franc, mostly due to their body, robust tannins and elegant textures. There is a rising demand for feteasca neagra wines on the regional as well as on the international markets and many experts name this variety as the visit card of romanian wines. That said and without further ado, let’s take a look at the wine tasting results.

96x96This is definitely a fine wine of Moldova and, with a total of 92.5 points scored, this wine is right there, among the best wines we’ve rated so far. Verdict: this is a very savory and quite lean feteasca neagra wine that opens up with an appealing mixture of ripe red fruits and leathery-irony notes in the foreground, supported by a delicate spiciness and some very subtle oak-infused flavours in the background, and a layer of earthy hints in between. The wine feels round and supple, with elevated acidity, fine-grained tannins and quite a touch of alcoholic warmth showing through on the mouthfeel – all that leads to an appealingly-seedy aftertaste. This is a plump and rustic wine that is still developing in the bottle, thus one that requires just a couple more years of bottle ageing before it reaches its peak form. All in all, this is a well structured feteasca neagra wine, with a nice balance between primary fruit flavours and those rustic, savory-leathery notes in the background – a wine that is produced in a limited edition of only 2000 bottles, that’s why we would suggest you to grab a bottle as long as it is still available in the wine shops. Cheers!
