Today we are going to review a rosé wine from Podgoria Iasi wine region in MoldovaLiric 2020 by Gramma. This rosé wine is a blend of cabernet sauvignon and feteasca neagra, where cabernet sauvignon forms the wine’s main body and structure, while feteasca neagra rounds up and smoothens the final blend. Rosé itself is a bizarre wine category, as it isn’t exactly a red wine nor is it a white wine – it is something in between. The secret to the pinkish hue of the rosé wine is found in the skins of the grapes and more exactly in the anthocyanin pigments. When making a red wine, the skins spend the entire fermentation touching the juice, for rosé however the process is shortened, for example pinot noir usually spends around 4 to 6 hours on the skins to produce its trademark pale salmon hue, while cabernet sauvignon needs only a few minutes to make that rich, deep-pink color. But enough theory – that said, without further ado, let’s take a look at the wine tasting results.

Verdict: this is a very light, lean and refreshingly crisp rosé wine that is right there, at the summit of its prime form, therefore our recommendation is to drink it now, as there’s no need for further bottle ageing at this stage. It feels supple and very appealing, with a nuanced fruity-floral profile and a crisp finale. On the palate the wine delivers mouth-watering acidity and a touch of alcoholic warmth on the mouthfeel, which makes it feel well structured and nicely balanced. On the nose the wine feels very expressive and delivers a mixture of ripe and overripe berry fruits in the foreground, followed by a subtle and appealing floral layer in the background. All in all, this is a blueprint rosé wine blend with a harmonious aromatic profile and a round and plush mouthfeel – a wine that will pair nicely with oven baked salmon or parmesan roasted shrimp. Cheers!
