Today we are also going to review a single varietal syrah wine that comes from the Banu Maracine vineyards in Dealurile Olteniei wine region of south Romania – Syrah 2018 by 7ARTS Winery. In a world where bolder is better, syrah is the perfect choice, as it is darker and spicier than cabernet sauvignon and contains a high amounts of health-invigorating antioxidants. Syrah, also known as Shiraz, can be vinified in two major styles: old-world style and new-world style. The old-world syrah wines tend to have more acidity and earthy-herbaceous aromas, while the new-world shiraz wines are usually fruit-driven with lots of spice and hints of smoke. At 7ARTS, the very first wine was released on the market in the 7th year after the whole vineyard’s surface was replanted in 2009, hence the name – 7ARTS. The winery’s unique philosophy is that all the red wines are aged exclusively in romanian oak barrels. This particular wine has been produced in a limited edition of only 4125 bottles and has been aged for 18 months in romanian oak barriques in order to soften the tannins and add a layer of extra complexity to the aromatic and flavour profiles. That said and without further ado, let’s take a look at the wine tasting results.

//Verdict
maturity: developing | drink now or in the next 2 or 3 years
verdict: fine | highly recommended | a wine of premium quality with good potential

All in all, this is an ample and well-structured wine, that offers a rich and complex interplay of ripe black fruits, earthy undertones, and subtle hints of oak. Its well-structured nature creates a rich and harmonious mouthfeel, with slightly seedy notes contributing to its overall appeal. This is a well made, Côtes du Rhône styled Syrah wine, that exudes authenticity, yet a wine that in its current state lacks some finesse on the palate. Nevertheless, its inherent qualities makes it a wine with a great aging potential. For those seeking a genuine expression of the Syrah grape variety, with a nod to the modern french style of vinification, this wine is an option that promises immediate enjoyment and the prospect of further development with time spent in the cellar.

Pairing: Judging by the wine’s complex and rich flavor profile, we would recommend to pair it with a entrecôte steak with red wine sauce. The wine’s rich and complex flavor profile, highlighted by ripe black fruits, earthy undertones and subtle oak nuances, will complement the bold and savory flavours of the entrecôte, while the firm structure and ripe tannins in the wine will harmonize beautifully with the robust flavors of the meat, creating a luxurious interplay on the palate. In the same key, the seedy aftertaste and crisp acidity of the wine will provide a refreshing contrast to the succulence of the steak, enhancing each bite with a delightful complexity. This pairing celebrates the wine’s terroir-driven character while allowing the savory and indulgent qualities of a french steak to shine. Bon appétit!
