WineStatistics will be evaluating wines in no particular order on no particular schedule. Just stay tuned and you will never miss one. If the wine is tasted more than once, the rating table will be updated so as to reflect all the new impressions and observations. The logic is simple – the more we taste, the more we learn.
We will continue reviewing Wine of Moldova and we are still on the wine blend theme, as we are still searching for the perfect blend. The wine that we’ve chosen for tonight’s tasting is a very special one – it is famous both, inside and outside of Moldova‘s borders and it is regarded as one of the best wines of Moldova – Rosu de Purcari 2010 from Chateau Purcari. This wine is often regarded as a pivot point and a quality vector for those winemakers, who want their good wines to become great.
Let’s take a deeper look at the tasting notes and the wine’s review statistics:
The wine has a deep and opaque garnet color, with the rim-color of a clear ruby shade.
The nose is clean and strong with no signs of wine faults. The first nose reveals strong notes of red fruits: sour cherry, sour cherry pie, violets, cranberry, red currant, red plum and pomegranate. Then come the secondary aroma of blueberry, red olive, tomato leaf, tobacco and a strong oak scent – a clear tell that the wine was aged in oak barrels.
The wine is bone dry with no hints of residual sugar. It has moderate, well integrated alcohol level, high acidity and quite dry tannin. This is a firm, complex and muscular wine, it has a nuanced seedy profile with some bitter-zesty notes. The wine has a good overall balance – it tastes delicious and savory at the same time.
The wine has a quite long finish, long enough to make you fall in love with it’s velvety and well structured aftertaste.
This is definitely a great Wine of Moldova and the overall rating says the same, with 90.0 points scored it is right there, among the best wines we’ve tasted so far. Last but not least, it is to be mentioned that one of the previous vintages of this wine has been awarded a bronze medal by Challenge International du Vin – one of the world’s most influential wine tasting contests in the world of wine. We can only add that this is one of the best wines from Moldova indeed and one of the best wines we’ve tasted to date – a wine that could be easily compared with other, internationally famous wine blends (which we will definitely do in the near future), especially to those from the old world. As an epilogue, we would like to leave you with this positive message: ‘Takk, Norge!‘, if you know what we mean.
