WineStatistics will be evaluating wines in no particular order on no particular schedule. Just stay tuned and you will never miss one. If the wine is tasted more than once, the rating table will be updated so as to reflect all the new impressions and observations. The logic is simple – the more we taste, the more we learn.
Tonight we are going to review a wine blend, made of sauvignon blanc & feteasca regala grape varieties – Balada 2015 from Vinaria DAC. It’s a wine that highlights both, local terroir of the feteasca regala variety and aromatics of the world famous sauvignon blanc grape variety. This wine is an emotional mix between two opposite worlds: sweet home and faraway journey. But let’s not get too emotional and switch back to the review.
Take a look at the tasting notes bellow and our detailed assessment of the wine:
Straw white color with shades of pale yellow towards the rim of the glass.
The nose is strong, filled mostly with citrus fruits: straw grass, honey, lime, cucumber, white apple, pomelo, fresh cut grass, white pear, gooseberry, apple blossom, white bell pepper, lemon and some nuanced hints of white cherry.
The wine is medium-dry, with high alcohol level, high acidity and ripe tannin. It tastes a bit rough, angular and fruity-floral, with a nuanced citrusy accent. This is a crisp, sharp and quite mineral wine with a fair overall balance and a bitter-green accent.
The wine has a medium finish and a balanced, a bit rough aftertaste.
This is definitely a fine Wine of Moldova and the overall rating says the same, with 89.6 points scored it is right there, among the best wines we’ve tasted so far. Please click on the chart icon on the left in order to get to the wine rating page, where you can find all the wines we’ve tasted to date.
Conclusion: this wine is not yet in its prime form, as it is too angular and a bit unbalanced at the moment, therefore some bottle ageing would be highly recommended. It has a nice aromatic profile and a nuanced citrusy mouthfeel. This wine would be a perfect pairing partner for any oven roasted fish & rosmarine dish, where the herbal & fat accents of the dish will be nicely highlighted by the floral accents of the wine. Enjoy.
