We will be evaluating wines in no particular order on no particular schedule. Just stay tuned and you will never miss our reviews. If the wine is tasted more than once, the rating table will be updated so as to reflect all the new impressions and observations.

Today we are also going to review that one rosé wine that raises the bar higher and higher with every new vintage – Rosé de Purcari 2019 by Purcari. This wine is a blend of three grape varieties: cabernet sauvignon, merlot and rara neagra and is regarded by many as the best rosé wine of Moldova. The grapes are harvested by hand in the famous Stefan-Voda region, in the proximity of Purcari village, while the wine’s blending formula is kept intact for the last several vintages – a statement that this wine is the one that others look up to, a wine that is considered a point of reference on the local market. That said, without further ado, let’s take a look at the wine tasting results.

96x96This is definitely a fine wine of Moldova and, with a total of 91.5 points scored, this wine is right there, among the best wines we’ve rated so far. Check our complete database on the wine rating page, where you can find all the wines that we have tasted and reviewed or go to the about us page and find out more about our exquisite rating system.

Verdict: this is a very fine rosé wine that is right there, at the summit of its prime form: refreshingly crisp, fruity expressive and very appealing, with a nuanced seedy-zesty accent, mouth-watering acidity and some overwhelming alcohol that creates a slightly burning sensation on the mouthfeel. We would recommend to drink this wine today rather than tomorrow in order to enjoy it at its finest, still, this is a wine that can resist another 6 or 9 months of bottle ageing. Overall this is a very fine rosé wine, with a medium body, moderate complexity, a wine that is nicely structured, even though it might feel slightly angular due to dominant alcool. All in all, this is one of the best rosé wines we’ve tasted so far: fresh, supple and crisp – a wine that lacks maybe just a bit of finesse and elegance.
