Today we are going to review a single varietal cabernet sauvignon wine from Banu Maracine vineyards from Dealurile Olteniei region – Cabernet Sauvignon Rezerva 2019 by 7ARTS Winery. Cabernet Sauvignon is grown all over the world in a wide range of climates and regions and it can produce wines that are very high in tannins and acidity, wines that can mature and develop for many years in the bottle. Cabernet Sauvignon is also a late ripening grape variety, which means that it is best suited for warm climates, where it is capable to produce wines that can reach into realms of perfection, where they are rarely followed. At 7ARTS, the very first wine was released on the market in the 7th year after the whole vineyard’s surface was replanted in 2009, hence it’s name – 7ARTS. The winery’s unique philosophy is that all the red wines are aged exclusively in romanian oak. This particular wine is an Anniversary Edition, that pays homage to the first 10 years of 7ARTS Winery, made from late harvested cabernet sauvignon grapes, from which only the free-run juice was used (no press), aged for 24 months in new, romanian oak barriques and produced in a limited edition of only 3800 bottles. That said and without further ado, let’s take a look at the wine tasting results.

96x96This is definitely a great wine of Romania and, with a total of 93.3 points scored, this wine is right there, among the best wines we’ve rated so far. Verdict: this is a very extractive, firm and expressive cabernet sauvignon wine, with a dusty and grippy mouthfeel. The wine is still very youthful, therefore it definitely requires at least 3 to 5 more years of bottle ageing in order to develop and round up, before it will get closer to its true potential. On the nose the wine brings a mixture of nuanced oaky notes and overripe black fruits in the foreground, followed by some very subtle, dusty-oaky hints in the background. On the palate the wine delivers crisp acidity, ripe and firm tannins and an overwhelming touch of alcoholic warmth that is showing through on the mouthfeel, which evolves into a seedy-hot aftertaste. All in all, this is a quite muscular, bold and tannic cabernet sauvignon, with a clear-cut, new world style with a nuanced fruit-forward profile – a wine that in its current state lacks harmony and finesse on the palate. Taking into account the wine’s flamboyant body and flavour profile, we would recommend to pair it with barbequed or grilled meats, like for example a tomahawk steak or a spicy T-bone steak. Cheers!
